Soprano Corinne Winters, acclaimed by Opera News for her “passionate lyricism and deep burgundy coloring,” is a recent graduate of the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, and a nominee in the International Opera Awards Young Singer category. Corinne’s 2013–14 season included debuts with Santa Fe Opera as Soon Ching-Ling in the American premiere of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, Kentucky Opera as Mimì in La Bohème, Michigan Opera Theatre as Violetta in La traviata, and Virginia Opera as Micaëla in Carmen. Return engagements include a role debut as Teresa in Benvenuto Cellini with the English National Opera, and Mimì in La Bohème with Arizona Opera. In recital, Corinne performed with the New York Festival of Song, and in a duo recital with Matthew Polenzani, accompanied by Ken Noda, for the George London Foundation. She also debuted as a recording artist with GPR records in a Spanish song disc, accompanied by acclaimed pianist Steven Blier. Future seasons include debuts with the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Washington National Opera, Vlaamse Opera, Zürich Opera House, and the Santa Cecilia National Academy Orchestra, among others.
Corinne has won prizes from Wolf Trap Opera’s Shouse Career Grant, the Mabel Dorn Reeder Foundation, the Marcello Giordani Foundation (first prize, Critics Choice Award, Vero Beach Prize), George London Foundation (George London/Leonie Rysanek Award), Sullivan Foundation (career grant), Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation (first prize), Connecticut Opera Guild, Palm Beach Opera Competition (first prize), Gerda Lissner Foundation, Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (national semifinalist, first place New England Region), Giargiari Bel Canto Competition, Mario Lanza Competition, Annapolis Opera Competition, and Florida Grand Opera Young Patronesses Competition, and was a U.S. representative in the Pavarotti International Voice Competition in Modena, Italy. Corinne, originally from Frederick, Maryland, has completed a master of music degree in vocal performance from the Peabody Conservatory and bachelor of science degree magna cum laude from Towson University. Currently, she studies with world-renowned soprano Diana Soviero.
